Big Ed's Baseball Pages

"Baseball is almost the only orderly thing in a very unorderly world.
If you get three strikes, even the best lawyer in the world can't get you off."

-Bill Veeck-

[ ] This is the jump-off point to a land where Major League Baseball players from 1876 to the present compete against each other! In one direction is the OOSL with 24 teams in 2 Leagues, and in the other is the 3001 Leagues with 40 teams in 2 Leagues.

[ ] I am an owner of a single team in the OOSL, and I am the Commissioner of the 3001 Leagues. I also run 2 teams in the 3001 Leagues (Troy & Mexico City). The rest of the teams in the OOSL and the 3001 Leagues are either owned by other people or by the computer program. The program is the product of the Strat-O-Matic Game Company, Inc.. They are not the nicest bunch of characters ever to grace this earth, but they do make a fantastic baseball simulation that no other program can come close to equalling. I have been playing their game since 1965, and have continuously been amazed at the statistical accuracy the game's replays achieve. The computer program allows us to take a look at a magickal world where all the players of history have a chance to compete against each other. Players who never could have, and some who never would have played on the same field together - here get the chance to strut their stuff.

[ ] For example, can you imagine Ty Cobb facing Bob Gibson?! Or Lee "The Monster" Smith staring down at Cap Anson? How would you like to have Ernie Banks and Ryne Sandberg as your double-play combo?! What would happen if Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig were on different teams? How'd ya like to have Gehrig & Cal Ripken on the same team? Do you think Walter Johnson or Grover Cleveland Alexander would fare as well against today's hitter? How would Albert Goodwill Spalding do in parks that have fences? Oh, the questions are as endless as your imagination! Every game is a marvel.

[ ] And if you had the chance to draft a team from a player pool that stretched from 1876 to now . . . who would you pick?

[ ] Even more miraculous is the fact that the OOSL has brought in some of the greatest players of the old Negro Leagues! We can now see Josh Gibson and Oscar Charleston compete on the same field as Tris Speaker and Rogers Hornsby. For anyone who loves baseball this is a real treat. If only we as people could get along enough in real life so we could have seen it happen for real. Perhaps some day men AND women of all nationalities will compete against each other in a Worldwide Major Leagues - and we will have a REAL World Series!

[ ] Here you will find some pages set aside to display some of the statistics generated by these Leagues. Over in that direction is my team in the OOSL. And over in this direction are some stats from the 3001 Leagues. Soon there will be other baseball stuff here also. Until then, check out my Links Page for a few paths to baseball resources on the Web.
